The All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee has reportedly disqualified a total of 65 aspirants seeking tickets for the forthcoming Rivers State House of Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, including former factional Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo.
According to party sources familiar with the screening outcome, the affected aspirants were barred from proceeding in the contest following the committee’s review of nomination documents and eligibility criteria.
Victor Oko Jumbo, a prominent political figure in Rivers State and former factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly, was among those disqualified in the exercise, which has generated significant political reactions within party circles.
While the APC has not publicly released an exhaustive list of the affected aspirants at the time of filing this report, multiple insiders within the party structure indicated that a majority of those disqualified are politicians believed to be aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who is currently a dominant political actor in Rivers State.
The development is already stirring tension within the state chapter of the APC, as supporters of the affected aspirants question the transparency and criteria used in the screening process. However, party officials insist that the exercise was conducted strictly in line with the party’s guidelines for internal elections.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from the APC national or Rivers State leadership on the specific grounds for the disqualifications were ongoing as of press time.
The disqualification is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape ahead of the party’s primaries in Rivers State, as factions within the APC recalibrate their strategies for securing tickets in the 2027 electoral cycle.
Further updates are expected as the party is anticipated to release the full list of cleared and disqualified aspirants in the coming days.
