Not done with recent signings, Mikel Arteta continues to eye top players to fortify his mobile, youthful and resourceful team.
In another masterful move, sources disclosed that the gunners have entered preliminary negotiations on a transfer for Bayern Leverkusen’s Frimpong.
Arsenal is reportedly interested in the 22-year-old, who shone under Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso last season.
However, negotiations between Arsenal and Leverkusen for Jeremie Frimpong are at a very early stage.
Footballwebb reports that: “There is nothing firm yet. The German Bundesliga team would not sell him for less than €50 million and will probably demand more.
But, who is Jeremie Frimpong?
Frimpong finished the 2022/2023 Bundesliga season as Leverkusen’s second-best performer by average match rating (WhoScored), making him one of the team’s top assets.
He is a significant threat from full-back, and the Dutchman is among their best for attempts on goal, vital passes made, and successful take-ons per 90 (WhoScored). He boasts a magnificent 15 goal contributions in the German top flight alone (eight goals, seven assists).
When asked about Frimpong, journalist Dennis Melzer responded, “At Leverkusen, he plays alongside Moussa Diaby on the right flank, and together they arguably form the fastest duo in the Bundesliga.
“The right side is primarily used by Leverkusen in their aggressive play. And despite attempts by opponents to concentrate their play on the two of them, Diaby and Frimpong frequently succeed.
Frimpong is a player who is supposedly ‘defensive’ but who is also incredibly dangerous in front of goal.
Arteta probably knows better what extra bite a player like Frimpong would add to the already fortified Arsenal team in their charge for the league title and Champions league.
