Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised an alarm over an alleged attempt by soldiers to prevent him from entering Osun State as residents head to the polls to elect their governor.
Davido made the allegation in the early hours of Saturday, August 15, 2026, through a post on his official X account. The singer said he had been informed that soldiers were planning to stop him from gaining access to the state.
According to the singer, he would not accept any attempt to restrict his movement, insisting that Nigerians have a constitutional right to move freely. His post came hours before voting was scheduled to take place across the state.
Davido wrote that he had been “reliably informed” about the alleged move, adding that it would not stop him from making his way into Osun. He also maintained that every Nigerian citizen has the right to freedom of movement.
The development occurred against the backdrop of heightened security arrangements for the Osun governorship election. The Nigeria Police Force had announced a restriction on movement throughout the state from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, as part of measures for the conduct of the election.
The restriction means that movement within and into the state is subject to election-day security arrangements, with security personnel deployed to maintain order and protect the electoral process. The police had also stated that recognised security and law-enforcement agencies were authorised to carry out election-related security duties.
Davido’s concern is particularly significant because of his close family connection to the election. His uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election in the contest, making the singer one of the high-profile personalities publicly taking an interest in the poll.
The singer had travelled to the United Kingdom on Friday for a music performance at the Crystal Palace Bowl in South London. Reports said he intended to return to Nigeria after the concert and make his way to Osun ahead of the election.
His latest allegation is also part of a series of public interventions by the musician concerning the Osun election. Earlier in the week, Davido appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay attention to the election, citing concerns over possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process.
As voting gets underway, attention remains focused on the conduct of security agencies, the safety of voters and the credibility of the electoral process. Davido’s allegation has added another layer to the tense political atmosphere surrounding the closely watched Osun governorship election.
