FCCPC Warns Loan Apps: “No Consumer Should Live in Fear”, Urges Nigerians to Report Harassment

Posted on September 24, 2025September 24, 2025 By Rextun boss No Comments on FCCPC Warns Loan Apps: “No Consumer Should Live in Fear”, Urges Nigerians to Report Harassment

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has issued a strong warning to loan apps and other digital lenders harassing Nigerians over unpaid debts, declaring that “no consumer should live in fear.”

The Commission therefore urged borrowers who face threats, blackmail, or public shaming to report such abuse immediately.

Across Nigeria, the boom in quick-loan platforms has provided fast access to cash but also sparked widespread complaints of intimidation and privacy breaches. Many borrowers have reported relentless calls, insults, and the unauthorized sharing of personal details with friends, employers, and family members.

FCCPC says these tactics are illegal and will not be tolerated.
Under its recently introduced Digital Lending Regulations, all online lenders must register with the Commission, operate transparently, and respect consumer privacy.

Any platform caught using harassment or defamation to recover debts risks heavy fines, business suspension, and prosecution.

Nigerians who experience harassment can file complaints through FCCPC’s website, email (contact@fccpc.gov.ng), or official social media channels, attaching evidence such as call logs, messages, or screenshots.

The Commission assures that every report will be investigated and offenders sanctioned.
FCCPC’s message is clear: borrowing money should never mean sacrificing dignity or peace of mind.

By reporting abusive loan apps, Nigerians can help clean up the industry and protect the rights of millions who rely on digital credit for survival and growth.
