The Joint Revenue Board (JRB), in collaboration with the Nigerian Revenue Services (NRS), formerly known as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has announced the launch of a new digital platform known as the Nigerian Tax ID Portal, aimed at simplifying tax identification for individuals and businesses across the country.
According to the announcement, the newly introduced portal allows Nigerians to retrieve their Tax Identification Number (Tax ID) using existing national databases. Individual taxpayers can access their Tax ID by providing their National Identification Number (NIN), while registered businesses can retrieve theirs using their Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number.
The initiative is designed to streamline tax administration by reducing the challenges associated with locating or validating Tax Identification Numbers, which are required for a wide range of financial and regulatory activities, including banking, government transactions, and business compliance.
Officials explained that the portal is part of broader efforts by revenue authorities to improve taxpayer convenience, data harmonisation, and digital service delivery. By linking tax records with national identity and corporate registration systems, the platform is expected to enhance accuracy and reduce duplication within the tax database.
The Joint Revenue Board noted that the system will support both individual taxpayers and corporate entities, making it easier for users to confirm their tax identity without the need for physical visits to tax offices or lengthy administrative processes.
Revenue authorities also believe the portal will strengthen tax compliance by encouraging more Nigerians and businesses to formalise their tax status, while providing government agencies with more reliable data for revenue planning and administration.
The Nigerian Tax ID Portal represents another step in the ongoing digital transformation of Nigeria’s revenue system, reflecting the government’s push toward integrated public service platforms and improved ease of doing business.
