Former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has declared that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Gana made the disclosure while speaking with journalists after the PDP state congress held in Minna, Niger State. He said Nigerians are yearning for Jonathan’s return to Aso Rock after experiencing successive administrations since he left office in 2015.
“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference and are asking for his return. We should be prepared to vote for him to become President again,” Gana stated.
The PDP chieftain added that the party has resolved its internal crises and is now united to reclaim power in 2027, describing the PDP as a “truly democratic and grassroots-oriented party.”
Goodluck Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, remains constitutionally eligible to run, having completed only one full term. His previous administration is remembered for electoral reforms and a peaceful handover in 2015, though it faced criticism over insecurity and economic management.
While Gana’s declaration has sparked excitement among supporters, the PDP is yet to issue an official statement on Jonathan’s candidacy. The party’s presidential primaries and broader consultations are expected to shape the coming months as Nigeria heads toward a pivotal 2027 general election.
