The Kwara State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the killing of a farmer, Mr. Azeez Garba, whose body was discovered on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, the boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in Isin Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, described the killing as “cruel, senseless and unacceptable,” and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to immediately commence a discreet but comprehensive investigation.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Garba left for his farm in the morning but did not return home, prompting his family members and local vigilantes to begin a search.
The search party reportedly found his motorcycle parked at the farm before discovering his lifeless body a short distance away. Police said the deceased had sustained deep machete wounds, suggesting he was brutally attacked.
CP Adekimi has ordered investigators to deploy all available intelligence and investigative resources to identify, track and arrest those responsible for the killing.
The command said no arrests had been made as of the time the statement was issued but assured the bereaved family, residents of Isin Local Government Area and the public that every available lead was being pursued.
“The investigators are working assiduously to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and ensure that all those connected with this heinous crime are identified and brought to justice,” the statement said.
The Kwara State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, pledging not to relent until those behind the murder are apprehended and prosecuted.
