Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested three individuals suspected of collaborating with insurgent groups in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State, in Nigeria’s troubled North-East region.
According to military sources, the suspects were intercepted during a routine security operation in the Monguno axis, an area that has experienced persistent attacks linked to Boko Haram and its splinter faction, Islamic State West Africa Province.
The individuals were reportedly found in possession of items believed to be logistical supplies intended for insurgents operating within the Lake Chad Basin. While the exact contents of the materials have not been publicly disclosed, such supplies often include food items, fuel, and other essentials used to sustain fighters in remote hideouts.
Military authorities stated that the arrest followed credible intelligence and ongoing surveillance aimed at disrupting supply chains that support terrorist operations in the region. The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation, with officials working to uncover their network and possible links to insurgent cells.
Monguno, located in northern Borno State, remains a strategic area in Nigeria’s counterinsurgency efforts due to its proximity to the Lake Chad region, a known stronghold for extremist groups. Security forces have intensified operations in recent months, targeting not only armed fighters but also logistics networks and civilian collaborators believed to aid insurgency activities.
The Nigerian military has repeatedly emphasized that cutting off supply routes and local support systems is critical to weakening insurgent capabilities. Authorities have also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring the public of continued efforts to restore peace and stability across the North-East.
