The Benue State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects over the killing of the state Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ardo Risku Mohammed, and another victim, Yakubu Isa, in what authorities have described as a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out by tactical police teams in Otukpo Local Government Area on the night of June 27, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet.
Police identified the suspects as Titus Thyodenda (25), Utibe Sam (20), Owoicho Ameh (18), Sunday Useni (21), Sunday Ogbanje (46), Daniel Raphael (23), Adokole John (24), Samuel Ogazi (32), Agbo Daniel (25), and Onazi James (30).
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, said the arrests reflected significant progress in efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.
He assured residents that investigations remain active and that security operatives are intensifying efforts to apprehend other individuals believed to have played roles in the killings. The commissioner stressed that everyone found culpable would face justice in accordance with the law.
The police also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and continue providing credible information that could assist investigators as the case progresses.
The victims were reportedly attacked and killed shortly after attending a peace meeting convened to address security concerns in parts of Benue State, an incident that heightened fears of renewed violence in the area.
