President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an upward review of salaries for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, a move aimed at improving troop welfare and boosting morale among personnel engaged in security operations across the country.
The approval was disclosed during an interfaith breaking of the Ramadan fast with military personnel at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. During the event, senior military officials expressed appreciation to the president for approving the salary increase and additional welfare measures for officers and men of the armed forces.
Speaking on behalf of the military leadership, the Chief of Army Staff acknowledged the gesture and commended the president for approving the upward review of salaries and allowances for service members, including personnel attached to the Brigade of Guards. According to him, the development forms part of broader efforts to improve the living conditions and operational effectiveness of the armed forces.
Military authorities noted that beyond the salary increase, the approvals also cover improvements in welfare packages, including better accommodation for troops and enhanced procurement of equipment needed for military operations. The leadership of the armed forces said these measures would help strengthen the capacity of troops currently deployed across the country to combat terrorism, banditry, and other security threats.
President Tinubu, who addressed the soldiers during the gathering, praised the sacrifices of military personnel and acknowledged the challenges they face while defending the nation. He noted that many service members spend extended periods away from their families while confronting violent groups and safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The president assured the troops that his administration remains committed to strengthening the armed forces through continuous investment in welfare, logistics, intelligence capabilities, and modern military equipment. He also reiterated the government’s determination to overcome terrorism and other security challenges facing the country.
The salary increase comes amid longstanding calls for improved remuneration and welfare for Nigerian soldiers, who have been heavily deployed in counter-terrorism and internal security operations across several regions of the country.
