President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping across Nigeria, declaring that the Federal Government will never surrender to criminal intimidation.
The President’s position was conveyed during the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebrations. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, Tinubu assured Nigerians that the government remains determined to restore peace and secure the release of all citizens currently held captive by criminal groups.
According to the President, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime pose serious threats to national development and democratic progress. He stressed that the government would continue to strengthen security operations and intensify efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating across the country.
“The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” Tinubu said in the message delivered on his behalf. The President emphasized that the safety of citizens remains a top priority of his administration and that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure that communities affected by insecurity regain stability and confidence.
Tinubu also acknowledged the economic difficulties currently facing many Nigerians, assuring citizens that his administration is working to ease hardship while pursuing long-term reforms aimed at economic growth and national development. He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and supportive of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and improve living conditions across the country.
The President further appealed to young Nigerians to reject violence, political thuggery, misinformation, ethnic division, and religious intolerance. He encouraged citizens to uphold democratic values and contribute positively to nation-building as the country prepares to commemorate another Democracy Day anniversary.
Tinubu’s renewed assurance comes amid continuing security concerns in several parts of the country. Recent reports have highlighted ongoing efforts by security agencies to rescue abducted persons, combat terrorist activities, and curb kidnapping operations. Government officials maintain that security forces are making progress through intensified operations and improved coordination among security agencies.
The President has repeatedly maintained that insecurity remains one of the greatest challenges confronting the nation. Earlier in the year, he pledged to strengthen security institutions and declared that Nigeria would ultimately overcome terrorism and banditry through determination, resilience, and sustained government action.
As Democracy Day approaches, the administration says its focus remains on protecting lives, preserving democratic gains, and fostering national unity despite the security and economic challenges facing the country.
