Nigerian troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, alongside 22 other kidnap victims after foiling coordinated attacks by armed bandits in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The military operations were launched in response to credible intelligence and multiple distress calls indicating that heavily armed bandits had simultaneously targeted several communities in the area.
According to security sources, the attackers stormed the rector’s residence on Tsohon-Tasha Street, where they fatally shot his private security guard, Malam Isah Bello, 46, and injured another guard, Sharhabilu Haruna, 35, before attempting to abduct Dr. Yusuf, his wife and their two children.
Troops swiftly intercepted the gunmen as they attempted to escape on motorcycles, engaging them in a gun battle that forced the assailants to flee. The rector and his family were rescued without injury, while the wounded guard received medical attention.
In a separate but related operation, soldiers responding to another emergency call moved to Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji village, where suspected kidnappers were attempting to seize more residents. Although difficult terrain initially slowed the troops’ advance, they pursued the fleeing suspects and disrupted the abduction attempt.
The security forces also intercepted another gang operating within the same community, rescuing 56-year-old businessman Alhaji Azaria and 21 other civilians who had been abducted from neighbouring homes. All those rescued were reported to be safe and are receiving appropriate care and support.
During the operation at the rector’s residence, troops arrested Falalu Yusuf, 45, who is suspected of acting as an informant by allegedly supplying the attackers with intelligence on the victims. The suspect has been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in Kaura Namoda for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Military authorities praised the troops for their swift response, professionalism and determination, saying the successful operations reflect the continued offensive against bandit groups operating across Zamfara State. They also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to strengthen ongoing counter-banditry efforts.
