The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party has announced significant leadership changes, appointing Senator Nenadi Usman as the Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the Interim National Secretary.
The appointments were made at an emergency NEC meeting held earlier today, signaling a new direction in the party’s internal structure.
Senator Usman, a former Minister of Finance and seasoned lawmaker, steps into the role amid growing calls for unity and strategic repositioning within the party. Her appointment marks a notable development as the party prepares for upcoming political activities, including grassroots mobilization and policy recalibration.
Senator Nwokocha, who previously served as Senate Minority Whip, will take charge of administrative coordination and party communications in his role as interim secretary.
While the NEC has not disclosed the duration of these interim appointments, party insiders say the leadership changes are part of a broader plan to stabilize the party and prepare for a national convention later in the year.

The Labour Party has yet to issue an official statement on the changes, but reactions from stakeholders suggest the decision was reached to fill a leadership vacuum and reposition the party in the face of mounting internal challenges.
Further details are expected in a formal communiqué from the NEC.
