Slain Kwara Forest Guard’s Abducted Wife: Bandits Slam ₦100m Ransom Demand

Posted on February 13, 2026February 13, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on Slain Kwara Forest Guard’s Abducted Wife: Bandits Slam ₦100m Ransom Demand

Tension continues to mount in Kwara State following a deadly attack in Oba-Isin community where suspected bandits killed a local forest guard and abducted his wife, later demanding a staggering ₦100 million ransom for her release.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Oba-Isin, located in the Isin Local Government Area of the state. Armed men reportedly stormed the town at about 7 p.m., firing sporadically and sending residents fleeing for safety as panic spread across the agrarian community.

During the invasion, a forest guard identified as Raheem Ogunrinde, popularly known as Baba Kafaya, confronted the attackers in what witnesses described as a gun duel. He was fatally shot in the exchange, leaving behind a grieving family and a shocked neighbourhood.

In the aftermath of the attack, the gunmen abducted his wife, Funke Ogunrinde, and escaped into nearby forested areas. Residents said the assailants operated for several minutes without immediate resistance, heightening fears about security vulnerabilities in rural parts of the state.

By Thursday morning, family sources disclosed that the kidnappers had established contact and demanded ₦100 million as ransom for Mrs. Ogunrinde’s release. The demand, described as outrageous and crushing, has left the bereaved family in deep distress as they grapple with both loss and uncertainty.

According to a relative who spoke to reporters in Ilorin, the abductors insisted that the full amount must be paid if the victim is to be returned alive. Efforts to negotiate a reduction in the ransom were reportedly unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

The incident has once again spotlighted the growing pattern of high ransom demands linked to rural banditry in parts of Kwara. Community members say the arbitrary nature of such demands reflects a disturbing trend where victims’ families are forced into desperate financial struggles.

Following the attack, security operatives were deployed to Oba-Isin and surrounding communities to prevent further incursions. Patrol activities have reportedly increased, while some residents have temporarily relocated to neighbouring towns out of fear of renewed violence.

The killing of the forest guard, who was part of local efforts to protect communities from criminal elements, has intensified calls for improved intelligence gathering, better equipment for grassroots security outfits, and stronger collaboration between community vigilantes and formal security agencies.

As the Ogunrinde family mourns the slain guard and prays for the safe return of his abducted wife, residents across Kwara State are once again confronted with the harsh reality of rural insecurity and the heavy toll it continues to exact on families and livelihoods.
