A member of the United States Congress has alleged that armed Fulani militants are primarily responsible for the widespread killings of Christians in Nigeria, calling on the international community to take decisive action against what he described as an ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The lawmaker, Riley Moore, made the remarks in a post published on his official Facebook page, where he asserted that Fulani militant groups were behind what he characterised as a “genocide” targeting Christian communities across parts of Nigeria.
According to Moore, the violence has claimed thousands of lives, displaced numerous families, and left many communities devastated. He argued that the crisis has not received the level of international attention it deserves and urged governments around the world to recognise the severity of the situation.
The congressman further called on the administration of Donald Trump to adopt stronger measures aimed at protecting vulnerable Christian populations in Nigeria and ensuring that those responsible for the attacks are held accountable.
Nigeria has for years grappled with multiple security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, communal clashes, and violent attacks by armed groups in several regions of the country. Analysts and rights organisations have often described the violence as complex, involving a combination of religious, ethnic, economic, and land-related factors, although interpretations of the conflict vary.
The Nigerian government has consistently maintained that it is committed to addressing insecurity nationwide, insisting that security operations are being intensified to curb attacks and protect all citizens regardless of religious or ethnic affiliation.
