The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the activities of the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) says it has uncovered 29 suspected forged official documents allegedly linked to the purported agency and its self-styled Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew.
Chairman of the committee, Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, disclosed the development during the appearance of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, before the panel in Abuja.
According to Gagdi, the documents allegedly include forged presidential approvals, counterfeit Acts of the National Assembly and fake correspondence purportedly issued by the State House, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Ministry of Finance and other government institutions.
The AGF told the committee that a letter originally intended for transmission to the Presidency was allegedly intercepted and manipulated to create the impression that the purported agency had official government recognition.
The committee is investigating allegations that the PFIPC operated without lawful establishment while presenting itself as a federal agency empowered to promote foreign investment and engage public institutions.
Lawmakers also directed the Inspector-General of Police to ensure the appearance of Adeyemi and about 13 civil servants linked to the matter before the committee to assist with the ongoing investigation.
The panel maintained that its investigation is aimed at establishing the authenticity of the documents, determining whether any public officials aided the activities of the alleged fake agency and identifying those responsible for any violations of the law.
The House committee said it would continue its hearings as part of efforts to protect the integrity of government institutions and ensure that anyone found culpable faces appropriate legal action.
