Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has condemned the killing of Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf, the village head of Galla in Borgu Emirate, describing the attack as a disturbing display of audacity by bandits.
Yusuf, who was reportedly killed in his palace, was also a brother to the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.
Reacting to the incident in a condolence message issued on Wednesday, Governor Bago expressed deep sadness over the death of the traditional leader and extended his sympathy to the bereaved family and the people of Galla.
The governor said the reported attack on the village head within his palace demonstrated what he described as the growing boldness and brazenness of criminal elements operating in the area.
Bago called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those responsible for the killing, stressing that the perpetrators must face the full weight of the law.
He urged the relevant authorities not to stop at apprehending the suspects but to ensure that they are properly prosecuted for the crime.
The governor commiserated with Senator Abdullahi, the deceased’s immediate family, the people of Galla Village and the entire Borgu Emirate over the loss of the traditional ruler.
According to Bago, Yusuf died while carrying out his responsibility to his community and protecting the interests of the people under his leadership.
He urged the family and community members to draw strength from the life the deceased lived and the service he rendered to his people until his death.
Bago also assured the bereaved family, Galla community and the wider Borgu Emirate of his administration’s support during the difficult period.
The governor prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljanna Firdausi and give his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.
