Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, has launched an unannounced inspection of police divisions and formations across the state, warning personnel to remain vigilant, disciplined and ready for immediate deployment.
The inspection tour, which commenced on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, is aimed at giving the police commissioner a direct assessment of the operational readiness, professional conduct and working conditions of officers serving across the command.
As part of the exercise, Adekimi visited the Area Command, Metro, Ilorin, as well as the 12 police divisional headquarters within the Ilorin metropolis. The visits provided an opportunity for the commissioner to evaluate security arrangements and interact directly with personnel at the various formations.

During the inspections, the CP assessed the preparedness of officers and identified operational challenges and capability gaps requiring attention. He also issued directives intended to improve the command’s effectiveness and strengthen public safety across the state.
Particular attention was drawn to the security of police facilities. Adekimi directed station guards to maintain a high level of alertness and responsiveness, stressing that personnel assigned to guard police formations serve as the first line of defence against potential security threats.
The commissioner also charged officers to align their duties with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which places emphasis on accountability, professionalism, intelligence-led policing and stronger engagement with communities.
He urged personnel to move beyond reactive policing by adopting proactive and intelligence-driven strategies for preventing and tackling crime. Officers were further reminded to remain disciplined, professional and responsive to the security concerns of residents within their areas of responsibility.
Adekimi reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, corruption, extortion and other forms of unprofessional behaviour. He warned that officers found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary and legal measures in line with existing laws and regulations.
The CP equally cautioned individuals who participate in, encourage or benefit from corrupt practices involving police personnel, noting that beneficiaries or end-users of such misconduct could also face sanctions where the law provides for it.

The commissioner disclosed that the inspection exercise would continue across other divisions, formations and operational locations in Kwara State. He explained that conducting the visits without prior notice was intentional, as it would provide a more realistic picture of personnel readiness, discipline, compliance and general operational standards.
Adekimi consequently directed all personnel to remain at their assigned duty posts, maintain constant vigilance and uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force. He assured residents that the command would continue to pursue proactive policing, crime prevention and the protection of lives and property throughout Kwara State.
