Fresh grief and outrage have engulfed residents of Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following reports that Mr Michael Oyedokun, one of the teachers abducted during last Friday’s coordinated school attack, has allegedly been killed by his captors.
Oyedokun was among several teachers and pupils kidnapped when heavily armed gunmen invaded schools in the Ahoro-Esinele axis on May 15, 2026, in a shocking attack that threw the rural communities into panic.
Reports circulating on Sunday claimed that the abducted teacher was brutally killed in captivity, with disturbing videos allegedly showing his mutilated remains spreading across social media platforms. However, as of press time, the Oyo State Government and security agencies had yet to officially confirm the exact circumstances surrounding his reported death.
The attack targeted multiple schools, including Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, all located within the Oriire axis of Ogbomoso in Oyo State.
Among those abducted during the raid were the principal of Community High School, Mrs Alamu Folawe, Vice Principal Mr Ojo Jonathan, Michael Oyedokun, and several other teachers and pupils. Witnesses said the attackers stormed the schools on motorcycles in the early hours of the day, speaking Yoruba, Hausa, and Nigerian Pidgin during the operation.
The gunmen reportedly marched the victims into forest corridors linked to the Old Oyo National Park, an area security analysts have increasingly described as vulnerable due to difficult terrain and weak security presence.
The abduction sparked widespread fear across affected communities, forcing many parents to withdraw their children from schools over concerns about further attacks. The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board subsequently ordered the temporary closure of schools in Oriire LGA and neighbouring areas as rescue operations intensified.
In emotional videos that surfaced online after the abduction, some of the kidnapped victims appealed to Nigerians and the government for urgent intervention. One of the clips showed the school principal pleading for peaceful negotiations to secure their release.
The Oyo State Government had earlier announced joint rescue efforts involving security agencies, Amotekun operatives, and local hunters. Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said surveillance and patrol operations had been strengthened to prevent the attackers from escaping through forest routes.
The latest development has further heightened anxiety across Oyo communities, with residents calling for intensified security operations and urgent measures to safeguard schools in rural areas.
