Kwara Gov Earns Praise for Proactive Relocation of College of Nursing to Ilorin

Posted on October 7, 2025October 7, 2025 By Rextun boss No Comments on Kwara Gov Earns Praise for Proactive Relocation of College of Nursing to Ilorin

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara state has been commended for his proactive intervention in relocating the Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode (KWCONOO), to Ilorin to safeguard the lives of students and staff, and to prevent disruption in the institution’s academic calendar.

The Chairman, Kwara State House of Assembly Committee on Education and Human Capital Development, Hon. Mohammed Babasaliu, gave the commendation on Monday, October 6, 2025, during a solidarity visit to the College’s temporary campus at the Institute of Technology (I.O.T), Mini Campus of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

The visit was aimed at assessing how students and staff have settled into their new learning environment following the unfortunate incident that occurred at Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

The lawmaker expressed gratitude to the management of the Kwara State Polytechnic for their magnanimity in accommodating the students and staff of KWCONOO.

“We sincerely appreciate the management of Kwara Polytechnic for their generosity and support in hosting the management, staff, and students of the College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode,” Hon. Babasaliu said.

“We also commend the Governor AbdulRazaq-led administration for its swift and proactive measures in saving lives and ensuring that academic activities at the College continue seamlessly.”

The Committee Chairman also appreciated the Provost, management, lecturers, and non-teaching staff of the College for their resilience and sacrifices in ensuring that teaching and learning continued despite the relocation challenges.

He urged the College authorities to strike a balance in handling the students, advising: “The way we treat our students matters. Don’t overpamper them, but don’t be harsh either. Maintain a fair balance.”

Hon. Babasaliu encouraged the students to view the relocation experience as part of their educational journey and not a setback.

“You are the future of Kwara State. This challenge should not discourage you or weaken your resolve to become nurses. The state government, your College management, and the legislature are all behind you,” he said.

He advised the students to remain focused, disciplined, and determined to succeed, describing nurses as life-savers and role models in society.

“This period may be difficult, but remember that you are here not just to earn a certificate, but to learn how to save lives. Stay disciplined, follow the College’s rules, and always strive to be good ambassadors of your institution, Ilorin, and Kwara State.”

While apologising for the inconveniences caused by the temporary relocation, the lawmaker encouraged the students to always appreciate their teachers and never forget those who shaped their education.

“Don’t forget your teachers who hold the chalk. You owe them a debt of gratitude that lasts a lifetime.”

In her vote of thanks , the College Chief Librarian, Mrs Nimata AbdulRaheem, who the Provost, Alhaji AbdulQaudri Olanrewaju, directed to speak on behalf of the management, expressed appreciation to Hon. Babasaliu, the Committee Secretary, and other members of the delegation, including Alhaja Iyabo Yusuf, Provost of the Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Ilorin, for their visit and words of encouragement.

The team was received by the Provost, Alhaji AbdulQaudri Olanrewaju; along with Acting Registrar, Mr. Hanafi Ibrahim; Bursar, Alhaji Mohammed Zakari; and other principal officers, lecturers, and non-teaching staff.
