Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, aka Portable, has been arrested by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command over allegations of defamation and threat to life made in a petition against him.
Portable was picked up on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Police sources informed that his arrest was consequent to receiving a petition filed by one Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as “Osupa” and obtaining a warrant of arrest issued by a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kwara Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi anipr, in a statement made available to journalists, disclosed that the allegations against the singer include criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
“The Command took lawful steps in line with due process to investigate the serious allegations made in the petition. The evidence presented necessitated the need for an arrest warrant, which was duly obtained,” the statement read.
Portable was arrested at about 7:25 p.m. in Abeokuta and was immediately transferred to Ilorin, where police said he gave a statement in the presence of lawyers from both sides.
“He is currently in custody as police prepare to charge him to court,” the PPRO added.
The Command urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information, assuring that justice will be pursued fairly and transparently.
