In what authorities described as a “decisive strike” against the growing culture of drug-laced nightlife in Lagos, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested popular socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, better known as Pretty Mike, along with more than 100 guests during a late-night raid at a high-profile club in Victoria Island. The operation, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025, followed weeks of intelligence gathering on alleged drug-related activities at the venue.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the agency received credible information that Proxy Nightclub, located on Akin Adesola Street in Victoria Island, had been hosting “drug parties” where patrons freely indulged in cannabis, nitrous oxide (popularly called laughing gas), and other psychoactive substances. Acting on the tip-off, NDLEA operatives discreetly stormed the area on Saturday night and monitored activities at the club before executing a coordinated raid around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
During the raid, law enforcement agents recovered several cartons of a potent strain of cannabis known locally as “Loud,” as well as dozens of canisters of nitrous oxide. The agency disclosed that the items were found hidden in the club’s storage section and on some guests. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as NDLEA officers surrounded the premises, blocked exits, and began rounding up attendees. Several luxury vehicles were impounded as part of the evidence collection process.
Pretty Mike, who is the registered owner of Proxy Nightclub, was among those arrested and taken into custody for questioning. Also apprehended during the operation was former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tuoyo Ideh, who later claimed on social media that he was mistakenly arrested despite not being involved in any illegal activity. NDLEA sources, however, insist that all those present at the venue will be screened before any releases or charges are made.
The agency emphasized that the raid was not arbitrary but a product of a sustained undercover investigation aimed at dismantling a suspected drug distribution and consumption network operating within high-end social circles. NDLEA officials stated that the crackdown on Proxy Nightclub reflects their renewed commitment to curb the infiltration of illicit substances into entertainment hubs that attract young professionals and celebrities.
In a public statement, Femi Babafemi described the nightclub raid as part of the NDLEA’s broader national strategy to fight drug trafficking, abuse, and the glamorization of narcotics in the name of social fun. He noted that the agency will no longer tolerate the conversion of nightclubs and lounges into “drug-friendly zones” where dangerous substances are normalized. He added that suspects found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the NDLEA Act and the Nigerian Criminal Code.
The operation also uncovered other shocking details, including reports that some patrons were found inhaling laughing gas directly from canisters while others were allegedly distributing cannabis-infused cocktails. These revelations have reignited public debate about the rise of substance abuse in Nigeria’s urban party scene, where hard drugs are increasingly disguised as recreational accessories. Concerned citizens have praised the NDLEA for targeting elite venues often considered untouchable by law enforcement.
For Pretty Mike, the arrest adds to a string of controversies surrounding his flamboyant public persona. Known for his eccentric fashion sense and provocative stunts at social events, he has previously drawn criticism for controversial displays that often spark online backlash. His current legal troubles, however, mark the first time he has been directly linked to a criminal investigation involving narcotics. NDLEA sources have confirmed that the nightclub owner remains in custody pending further interrogation.
The agency’s latest operation underscores a growing pattern of proactive raids across Nigeria’s major cities. In recent months, NDLEA has intercepted cocaine hidden in cocoa butter containers, seized large quantities of tramadol, and dismantled several methamphetamine laboratories. Authorities say these efforts are part of a renewed drive to eliminate the influence of drugs from both the streets and elite entertainment circles.
As investigations continue, the fate of the arrested individuals—including Pretty Mike and other celebrities caught in the swoop—remains uncertain. However, the NDLEA has assured the public that its screening process will be transparent, fair, and based on evidence. For now, the agency’s dramatic incursion into Lagos nightlife sends a clear warning: Nigeria’s war on drugs has extended beyond dark alleys and street corners into the glittering halls of the nation’s most exclusive clubs.
