Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, the lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industry, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), sending ripples through the political landscape of Osun State and beyond.
In a resignation letter personally signed and dated July 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Obokun Local Government Area, Senator Fadahunsi cited what he described as “irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles” that have plagued the party at the national level since the 2023 general elections.

According to him, the persistent internal divisions and unresolved litigations within the PDP have rendered the party unstable and unworthy of continued allegiance.
“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedevilled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections,” the Senator wrote.
He added that the decision came after “extensive dialogue with political associates, family, and friends.”
Fadahunsi’s resignation did not come as a complete surprise to those close to Osun PDP politics. An anonymous party insider in Ilesa told Daily Post that the Senator had long been disenchanted with the PDP and had been “craving to leave,” despite internal moves to persuade him otherwise. “He lost interest a long time ago,” the source stated. “He was just waiting for the right time.”
The Senator has yet to declare his next political affiliation, but recent moves suggest he may be gravitating toward the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He and Senator Ajagunla Olubiyi from Osun Central recently expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, a move many interpret as a precursor to a full defection. However, Fadahunsi has remained silent on whether he will officially join the APC or align with another party.
His exit comes amid intensifying speculation that Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, also of the PDP, may be considering a defection himself. Though Adeleke has publicly denied such plans, some of his supporters have declared readiness to follow him should he switch political platforms. These developments signal deeper unrest within the PDP in Osun State, a region once considered one of the party’s strongholds.

The Senator’s departure reduces the PDP’s strength in the Senate and underscores the growing fractures within the party’s structure both at state and national levels. With the 2027 election cycle approaching, observers believe Fadahunsi’s resignation could trigger further realignments, reshuffle power dynamics in Osun East, and potentially influence the political decisions of other key figures in the region.
As it stands, all eyes are now on Senator Fadahunsi’s next move. While he maintains a deliberate silence on his future political path, the implications of his resignation are already being felt, marking what could be the beginning of a major political shift in Osun State.
