In a tragic escalation of insecurity in southern Kaduna, at least three residents were killed and three others abducted following a late‑night attack by suspected bandits on Bundu Kahugu community in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The assault, which occurred on Monday night around 11 p.m. (December 29, 2025), has plunged the community into mourning and amplified urgent calls for enhanced security presence.
According to Ishaya Dauda, the National Secretary of the Bundu Kahugu community who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, gunmen stormed the village under the cover of darkness, firing indiscriminately and terrorising residents before fleeing with abductees.
The victims of the attack have been identified as Felix Augustine, Luka Yakubu, and Ezra Namata, who were killed during the raid. The three abducted residents remain unaccounted for, with family and community members anxiously awaiting news of their whereabouts.
This latest incident is not an isolated case. The community reportedly endured another deadly attack less than two weeks ago, during which four people were killed, highlighting a troubling pattern of repeated violence in the area.
Residents have appealed to the Kaduna State Government and national security agencies to urgently deploy military personnel and boost protection in Bundu Kahugu, saying poor telecommunications coverage has hampered emergency responses and allowed attackers to strike with impunity.
Local leaders stressed that improved security infrastructure and better communication networks are critical to safeguarding lives and preventing future attacks by armed groups who exploit gaps in surveillance and rapid response.
The Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the Bundu Kahugu raid at the time of reporting.
Communities across Nigeria’s northwest continue to suffer from recurring attacks by armed bandits, with rural settlements regularly targeted for kidnapping, theft, and violence, intensifying concerns over civilian protection ahead of the new year.
