DANZANGI, DUTSIN-MA LGA — A deadly attack by armed bandits on Friday night has left several people dead, including a local vigilante leader, in Danzangi, a rural community in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Residents say the attackers stormed the village under the cover of darkness, firing gunshots and causing widespread panic. The vigilante commander, who attempted to repel the assailants, was reportedly shot dead during the confrontation, along with other community members caught in the assault.

Survivors described a night of terror as gunfire rang out for hours. “It was like a nightmare. We had no idea who would survive till morning,” a distressed resident told Rextun City Updates, requesting anonymity.
Though the full number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, local sources suggest that multiple lives were lost and several others sustained injuries. Many families are said to have fled their homes in fear of a repeat attack.
The Katsina State Police Command has yet to release an official statement as of the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, local leaders are urging authorities to increase patrols and security presence in the area, which has seen repeated attacks in recent months.
This incident adds to the growing concerns over persistent insecurity in parts of the North-West, where rural communities often remain vulnerable to violent raids and abductions.
Danzangi is now in mourning, with residents calling for urgent and sustained government intervention to prevent further bloodshed and restore safety in their community
