The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a disturbing security incident involving the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Oluwasegun Alebiosu, after he reportedly received a parcel containing two live rounds of ammunition at his residence.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, disclosed the development during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja, describing the incident as a serious matter that warrants thorough investigation.
According to the police, the parcel was delivered by a dispatch rider and received by security personnel attached to Alebiosu’s residence. The package was reportedly accepted because it was addressed directly to the FirstBank chief executive and marked as confidential.
Sources familiar with the incident said the parcel was later handed over to Alebiosu, who opened it and discovered two live bullets concealed inside an envelope. No letter, note, or identifying information was found in the package, making it difficult to immediately determine the motive behind the delivery or the identity of the sender.
The police commissioner revealed that the bank executive promptly alerted security agencies after the discovery. Preliminary findings indicate that the envelope contained two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, prompting concerns over a possible threat to the banker’s safety.
CP Tijani assured the public that detectives have commenced efforts to trace the origin of the parcel and identify those responsible. He emphasized that the command is treating the case with utmost seriousness and will deploy all necessary investigative resources to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Mr. Alebiosu, who has served as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank since 2024, has not publicly commented on the incident.
As investigations continue, security agencies are expected to examine delivery records, review available surveillance footage, and track the dispatch rider involved in the delivery as part of efforts to determine whether the parcel was intended as a threat or part of a broader criminal scheme.
