The Federal Government has announced plans to reintegrate 744 repentant terrorists and victims of violent extremism into society following their successful completion of a deradicalisation programme under Operation Safe Corridor.
The beneficiaries recently graduated from the De-radicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DRR) camp, a multi-agency initiative designed to address insurgency through non-military means by rehabilitating former combatants who voluntarily surrender.
Operation Safe Corridor, established in 2015, is a strategic programme aimed at deradicalising, rehabilitating, and reintegrating low-risk former members of extremist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP into civilian life.
According to government officials, the programme combines psychological counselling, vocational training, religious reorientation, and civic education to prepare participants for reintegration. Graduates are typically provided with starter packs and support systems to help them rebuild their lives and reduce the risk of recidivism.
Security authorities have consistently described the initiative as a key component of Nigeria’s “non-kinetic” approach to counterterrorism, complementing ongoing military operations. Over the years, thousands of ex-combatants have passed through the programme, with many reunited with their families and communities.
Officials maintain that the reintegration process is carried out in collaboration with state governments, local authorities, and community leaders to ensure proper monitoring and social acceptance of the rehabilitated individuals.

Despite these concerns, the Federal Government insists that structured reintegration, backed by economic empowerment and community engagement, remains essential to achieving sustainable peace and preventing a resurgence of violent extremism.
The latest batch of 744 graduates marks another phase in Nigeria’s ongoing effort to balance security enforcement with rehabilitation-driven conflict resolution.
