The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed an armed robbery attack that occurred on Friday, December 12, 2025, along the busy Post Office Road in Ilorin. The incident, which happened at about 11:30 a.m., involved a Sienna vehicle driver who was ambushed by armed men and shot during the attack.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun (anipr), the victim sustained a gunshot injury on his palm while the assailants escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. The injured driver is currently receiving medical attention at a healthcare facility within the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, has immediately ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation to track down the perpetrators and unravel the motive behind the attack. He also directed heightened security measures across Ilorin, including increased patrols and enhanced police visibility in strategic areas.
As part of preventive measures, the CP advised residents to avoid carrying large sums of cash, urging the public to prioritise online or electronic transactions to reduce exposure to such criminal attacks. He further encouraged individuals or organisations who must move cash to make use of trusted bank escort services for added security.
The Police Command also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly around banks, ATM points, and financial hubs. Residents were urged to promptly report any suspicious movement or persons to the nearest police formation for swift action.
SP Ejire-Adeyemi reassured the public that the police are fully committed to safeguarding lives and property, adding that ongoing operations across the metropolis are aimed at preventing further criminal activity.
