Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has raised serious concerns over alleged unauthorized deductions from Nigeria’s federation account, claiming the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu has been withdrawing ₦100 billion monthly without due legislative approval.
In a recent interview with ARISE TV, El-Rufai described the alleged deductions as a violation of the law and termed the action “gross misconduct,” stating it could warrant impeachment proceedings under Nigeria’s constitutional framework.

According to the former governor, the deductions—purportedly directed to security agencies—have not yielded tangible improvements in the country’s security situation, raising questions about transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
El-Rufai, who recently exited the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), also cited a new opinion poll claiming that 91% of Nigerians disapprove of the current administration, a sign, he said, that many citizens have grown weary of the APC-led government.
While the Nigerian Constitution provides for a structured impeachment process through Section 143, involving both the House of Representatives and the Senate, there has been no official move by the National Assembly to act on El-Rufai’s allegations as of now.
El-Rufai’s critique comes amid tensions with the presidency, especially after he was dropped from the ministerial list in 2023—a decision he attributes to President Tinubu’s last-minute reversal.
Despite his recent political realignment, El-Rufai has yet to announce any plans to contest the 2027 presidential elections, stating instead that his current focus is on promoting better governance across Nigeria.
