The Federal Government has directed the withdrawal of legal proceedings against Comfort Emmanson, the passenger involved in a recent altercation aboard an Ibom Air flight.
The decision, announced by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, follows her expression of remorse and a mutual agreement for reconciliation between the parties.
The move comes after a series of high-level consultations involving the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and other aviation stakeholders.
Ibom Air, the complainant, therefore formally withdrew its petition, also lifting the lifetime travel ban previously imposed on Emmanson.
“Subsequent to the withdrawal of the complaint by the airline, the Commissioner of Police for the Airport Command and the Police Prosecutor will take immediate steps to facilitate her release from Kirikiri Prisons within this week,” Keyamo said during the briefing.

Minister Keyamo revealed that Emmanson displayed “great remorse” during questioning and that her legal representative cooperated fully with the investigative process. The FG’s intervention, he explained, was driven by the principle that all involved parties must acknowledge their own share of responsibility in disputes.

“It is clear that all the actors involved cannot continue to highlight the injury or injustice done to them without acknowledging their own equal culpability,” he emphasized.

With Ibom Air’s withdrawal now official, the Airport Police Command is expected to finalize the legal process for Emmanson’s release before the weekend.
