The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has appealed to passengers aboard Ibom Air flight IAN513, operating from Uyo to Lagos last Sunday, to come forward with firsthand accounts of the onboard confrontation.
The request, issued by NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, aims to deepen the authority’s probe into the incident .
In a post on the NCAA’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Achimugu encouraged anyone who was on that flight and witnessed the event to reach out via direct message or by emailing him. He emphasized that once identity is confirmed, the NCAA intends to gather multiple perspectives to ensure a fair and thorough investigation .
While no irresponsible behavior will be condoned, Achimugu stressed the importance of accountability: “Every other person who was culpable down the line must be held accountable.” He confirmed that NCAA officers in Lagos are poised to carry out a fact-finding mission in coordination with law enforcement and aviation security .
Describing the incident as a “test for the system,” Achimugu highlighted that such events expose operational gaps, allowing the aviation authority to “pluck loopholes” and enhance safety protocols. He reiterated the core aviation principle: safety must always come first .
