Oba Isin, Kwara State, Nigeria — A forest guard has been killed by suspected armed bandits in the Oba Isin community of Isin Local Government Area in Kwara State, in a continuing wave of violent attacks that have shaken the region this month.
According to resident accounts and preliminary reports, the assailants stormed the community on Wednesday evening, opening fire and killing the security operative on duty. The bandits also abducted the forest guard’s wife, taking her to an unknown location during the assault.
The identity of the slain forest guard and his abducted spouse had not been confirmed by security officials at the time of reporting. Local sources said the attack triggered panic among residents, many of whom fled their homes for safety.
This latest incident follows another deadly encounter earlier in the week, where a forest guard, identified as Mr. Omotosho Olawuyi Samuel was reported killed in a gunfight with armed bandits in the Koro community of Ekiti Local Government Area, also in Kwara State.
Kwara State has seen an upsurge in armed banditry and militant violence in recent weeks. In separate attacks in the Kaiama Local Government Area, suspected bandits reportedly killed scores of villagers in Woro and Nuku communities. Survivors described prolonged assaults, with gunmen firing on residents and destroying homes. Casualty estimates from aid groups and local committees suggest the death toll in those incidents may be well into the dozens and possibly higher.
The spike in violence has drawn warnings from security agencies. The Department of State Services (DSS) recently issued an alert about a possible imminent attack on another community in Baruten Local Government Area, citing intelligence about armed elements mobilising near forest corridors.
Community leaders and security analysts have expressed concern over the increasing frequency and severity of these attacks, urging enhanced protection and rapid response from both state and federal authorities.
As of now, official comments from Kwara police or the State Security Service regarding the Oba Isin attack have not been published. Investigations and search efforts for the abducted wife continue, with families and neighbours appealing for urgent action to ensure her safe return.
