The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its counterterrorism and counter-banditry operations with a series of precision airstrikes that neutralized terrorists and destroyed several criminal hideouts across Borno, Kwara, and Katsina States. The coordinated missions, carried out under the directives of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, were aimed at crippling insurgent and bandit networks threatening the nation’s peace and stability.

According to a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the airstrikes formed part of ongoing military campaigns — Operation HADIN KAI in the Northeast and Operation FANSAN YAMMA in the Northwest. He explained that the operations were executed following credible intelligence reports that revealed the movement and gathering of armed groups across the targeted locations.
In Borno State, air assets under Operation HADIN KAI struck Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) strongholds in the Mallam Fatori and Shuwaram areas. Surveillance footage reportedly showed large numbers of terrorists mobilizing in trucks and on motorcycles before the air raids hit their camps. The bombardments destroyed logistics bases, weapons storage facilities, and vehicles belonging to the insurgents, leaving many of them neutralized.
Similarly, in Kwara State, NAF aircraft under Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out successful strikes on bandit enclaves in Garin Dandi and Chigogo. The coordinated attacks followed intelligence that the criminals had been regrouping in the area after previous security operations forced them out of neighbouring forests. The precision strikes, according to Ejodame, completely destroyed several hideouts and eliminated key figures within the armed groups.
In Katsina State, the operation continued with sustained air bombardments around Zango Hill in the Kankara Local Government Area, a known route for bandit movements and arms trafficking. The strikes were said to have destroyed structures used for shelter and logistics, further weakening the bandits’ ability to coordinate attacks across the northwest region.
Air Commodore Ejodame described the missions as a demonstration of the Nigerian Air Force’s renewed operational tempo and the strategic use of intelligence-led air power to degrade terrorist and criminal networks. He noted that the operations were carried out in collaboration with ground troops from the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to ensure that the areas cleared by the air raids remain under firm control.
He emphasized that the NAF remains committed to delivering precise and purposeful strikes against insurgents and criminal elements while ensuring minimal collateral damage. “These latest operations show the resolve of the Air Force to safeguard citizens, protect critical infrastructure, and restore normalcy to affected communities,” the spokesman said.
The recent air campaigns mark another major stride in the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces to restore peace and stability across Nigeria’s northern corridor. With the continued support of intelligence-sharing and joint-force operations, the NAF aims to sustain the momentum against terrorism and banditry, reinforcing public confidence in the country’s security architecture.
