The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has cautioned members of the public against a fraudulent recruitment advertisement currently circulating on social media, stressing that the notice did not originate from the Service.
The warning comes amid renewed concerns over the activities of fraudsters who exploit the high demand for government employment to deceive unsuspecting job seekers.
The Customs Service advised prospective applicants to treat recruitment information obtained from unofficial sources with caution and to verify any employment-related announcement through its recognised official communication channels.
The agency has consistently warned that genuine recruitment into the Nigeria Customs Service does not require applicants to pay money to secure employment. Its official recruitment portal also carries a clear disclaimer stating that no fees or payments are required during the recruitment process and that requests for money should be regarded as suspicious.
The Service further urged members of the public not to provide personal information or make payments in response to recruitment offers whose authenticity cannot be established.
The latest warning is consistent with previous advisories issued by the NCS over fake job offers circulated through social media platforms. The Service has cautioned that fraudsters sometimes impersonate senior Customs officials or create deceptive online accounts and advertisements to convince job seekers that they can facilitate recruitment.
According to the Customs Service, legitimate recruitment announcements and updates should be obtained only through verified NCS platforms and other recognised official communication channels.
The agency urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious recruitment activities to the appropriate authorities rather than engaging with individuals who demand payment or promise guaranteed employment.
The NCS reiterated its commitment to maintaining a transparent and merit-based recruitment process, warning that anyone who falls victim to fraudulent recruitment schemes should not assume that such activities have any connection with the Service.
Job seekers are therefore advised to exercise caution, independently verify recruitment claims and avoid paying individuals or unofficial agents who claim to have the authority to secure positions within the Nigeria Customs Service.
The Service’s official recruitment portal currently carries a warning that its recruitment process does not require payment from applicants and advises candidates to rely on official channels for authentic information.
