Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have dealt a significant blow to Boko Haram’s operational capabilities in Adamawa State, arresting a suspected drone supplier and neutralising a high-value militant commander during coordinated counter-insurgency operations, security sources confirmed.
According to military sources familiar with the operation:
- At about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, troops working with local vigilantes and hunters engaged Boko Haram fighters along the Visik River line in Madagali Local Government Area. During the gun battle, one insurgent identified as Abdullahi Mafa — described as a former hybrid commander operating in the Madagali axis — was neutralised by the troops.
- Later that evening, around 6:30 p.m., the same forces conducted a targeted raid at Madagali Motor Park. In that operation, they arrested a 64-year-old suspect, Dauda Usman Gubula, alleged to be a Boko Haram collaborator and supplier of unmanned aerial drones and logistics support for the insurgents.
Officials reported that security personnel seized two aerial drones and 20 solar power banks during the arrest — items believed to have been destined for use by Boko Haram fighters in the region. The suspect has since been placed in military custody and is being interrogated as part of ongoing investigations into militant support networks.
The military’s effort follows a series of intensified operations across the North-East, aimed at disrupting the group’s supply chains, degrading its command hierarchy, and restoring stability to communities long affected by insurgent violence.
The offensive in Adamawa is part of broader security operations by Nigerian forces targeting Boko Haram and allied extremist groups. On the same day, troops were also reported to have disrupted a suspected terrorist assembly and arrested several arms smugglers in neighboring Yobe State.
These developments come amid other national headlines, including the reported passing of Senator Mpigi Barinada, underscoring the dynamic security and political landscape in Nigeria.
Boko Haram, which began its insurgency in the early 2000s, remains a major security threat in the north-eastern region of Nigeria, despite years of sustained military pressure. Efforts by the Nigerian Armed Forces under Operation HADIN KAI continue to target militant leadership, logistics networks, and external support chains to curb the group’s operational reach and protect civilians.
