The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed a deadly bandit attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, which occurred on Monday, February 3, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., leaving several residents dead and properties destroyed.
In response to the incident, Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Tuesday led a high-powered security delegation to the community for an on-the-spot assessment and to commiserate with affected families. The delegation included the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Adekimi Ojo; the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Michael Oganwu; the Brigade Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General N.N. Rume, alongside other senior security officers and top government officials.
During the visit on February 4, the governor and security chiefs met with the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar, as well as families who lost loved ones in the attack, assuring them of the government’s commitment to restoring peace and preventing a recurrence.
Preliminary findings by security agencies indicate that the attackers, suspected to be religious extremists, stormed Woro community and opened sporadic gunfire on residents. Several houses and shops were also set ablaze during the assault, resulting in widespread destruction and panic.
The police confirmed that the bodies of those killed have since been recovered and accorded a mass burial by the community.
Following the attack, a joint security operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, the military, and the National Forest Guards has been deployed to the area. The security presence is aimed at maintaining law and order, preventing further attacks, and reassuring residents of their safety.
The Kwara State Police Command disclosed that a full-scale investigation has been launched to track down the perpetrators, stressing that all those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Woro community, describing the incident as tragic and deeply distressing. He urged residents to remain calm, cooperate fully with security agencies, and provide credible information that could assist ongoing security operations.
The police assured the public that further updates would be communicated as investigations continue. Residents were also encouraged to report emergencies or share useful information through the Kwara Police Command emergency lines: 07032069501 or 08125275046.
