The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has counseled the newly sworn-in Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, to prioritize development efforts rather than revisit past political grievances through an investigation of former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
Speaking at a public event in Benin City on Sunday night, Wike acknowledged that while he had personal experiences that could justify such a move, he believed it was wiser for the new governor to focus on progress rather than prosecution.

Reflecting on his own political journey, the former Rivers State governor stated, “Life has its seasons. What matters now is the future of Edo State. I’ve had my share of challenges with Obaseki, and if anyone had a reason to go after him, it would be me. But look where we are — God has elevated you, not man.”
Wike admitted that he had played a role in Okpebholo’s political setbacks in the past, publicly apologizing and encouraging him to let go of any desire for revenge.
“I know what you endured. I was part of the pressure you faced and I apologized publicly for that. But now, it’s time to move forward. Let the past be the past and concentrate on building Edo. The results will speak for themselves,” he concluded.
