Dangote Begins 1.5 Billion-Litre Monthly Petrol Supply to End Nigeria’s Holiday Fuel Scarcity

Posted on December 2, 2025December 2, 2025 By Rextun boss No Comments on Dangote Begins 1.5 Billion-Litre Monthly Petrol Supply to End Nigeria’s Holiday Fuel Scarcity

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a major intervention in Nigeria’s downstream sector with plans to supply 1.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) monthly to the Nigerian market. The supply is scheduled to begin in December 2025 and continue through January 2026, an effort aimed at ensuring nationwide fuel availability during the festive period and early New Year.

This development comes as Nigeria continues to battle intermittent fuel scarcity, especially during holiday seasons. The refinery intends to significantly stabilise the PMS supply chain by providing a consistent volume that will support market demand across the country.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, disclosed the plan over the weekend. He explained that the refinery is set to make available 50 million litres of PMS daily, starting from December 1, as part of its commitment to national economic stability.

Dangote noted that the company has always prioritised the well-being of Nigerians by working to prevent fuel shortages during critical periods. He stated that the refinery’s December supply of 1.5 billion litres translates to an uninterrupted flow of petrol throughout the festive season.

In his remarks, Dangote reaffirmed the company’s readiness to meet regulatory requirements and outlined that the refinery has formally notified the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) of its supply schedule. This official communication sets the stage for coordinated distribution across the country.

According to the industrialist, the refinery will also supply another 1.5 billion litres of PMS in January 2026, maintaining the same output level as December. The goal is to ensure that Nigerians do not experience the typical New Year fuel scarcity often associated with high holiday travel.

Beyond January, the refinery plans to ramp up production to 1.75 billion litres of PMS in February, representing an increase to over 60 million litres of petrol per day. This rising supply demonstrates the refinery’s expanding operational capacity and its intent to meet national demand.

Dangote emphasised that the refinery is committed to providing a reliable alternative to fuel importation, reducing Nigeria’s dependence on foreign refined petroleum products. The intervention is expected to ease pressure on the country’s foreign exchange and strengthen local refining capabilities.

Speaking during a visit by the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) to the refinery, Dangote highlighted that the PMS supply rollout is part of a broader national development strategy. He described the plant as a “game-changing asset” that will transform Nigeria’s energy landscape.

With this announcement, Nigerians are expected to benefit from a more stable fuel market, improved petrol availability, and reduced economic disruptions caused by scarcity. The Dangote Refinery’s phased supply plan marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward self-sufficiency in petroleum products.
