Manchester City delivered a dominant second-half performance to defeat Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, significantly tightening the English Premier League title race.
After a largely uneventful first half, Pep Guardiola’s side returned from the break with renewed intensity, scoring three goals in the space of 17 minutes to dismantle the hosts. Nico O’Reilly opened the scoring in the 51st minute with a well-placed header. Just six minutes later, Marc Guéhi doubled City’s lead, finishing off another incisive attacking move.
Jérémy Doku sealed the emphatic victory in the 68th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error to put the game beyond Chelsea’s reach.
The result takes Manchester City to 64 points, reducing the gap to league leaders Arsenal to six points, with Guardiola’s side still holding a crucial game in hand.
City’s resurgence comes at a pivotal moment in the season, especially after Arsenal’s shock defeat to Bournemouth earlier in the weekend opened the door for their closest challengers.
Despite Chelsea showing early promise and even having a goal ruled out for offside in the first half, they struggled to cope with City’s attacking intensity after the interval. The defeat leaves the London club sixth on the table and dealing a significant blow to their hopes of securing a Champions League spot.
The emphatic win also sets the stage for a potentially decisive clash between Manchester City and Arsenal in the coming days—a fixture that could further reshape the title race as the season approaches its climax.
