Dangote Refinery Shares Could Rise to N10,000, Aliko Dangote Tells Prospective Investors

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has expressed optimism that shares of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals business, being offered at ₦525 per share, could rise significantly in value in the future, potentially reaching ₦10,000.

Dangote reportedly made the projection during an interview ahead of the company’s planned initial public offering (IPO), which is expected to provide Nigerians and other investors with an opportunity to acquire stakes in one of Africa’s most significant industrial projects.

The proposed share offer comprises approximately 4.1 billion ordinary shares priced at ₦525 each. If fully subscribed, the IPO is expected to raise about ₦2.15 trillion, equivalent to approximately $1.6 billion. The offering is being positioned as a major opportunity for retail investors to participate in the refinery’s future growth.

Under the proposed arrangement, investors can subscribe for a minimum of 10 shares at a total cost of ₦5,250. The structure is intended to make participation accessible to a broad range of Nigerians, including individuals who may not have previously invested in large industrial enterprises.

The offer is scheduled to open on September 14, 2026, and close on October 13, 2026. Following the completion of the subscription and allotment processes, the company is expected to pursue a listing on the Nigerian Exchange, where the market value of its shares will be influenced by investor demand and supply.

Dangote’s projection of a possible rise to ₦10,000 represents a substantial increase over the offer price. However, the figure should be understood as a future possibility expressed by the businessman, rather than a guaranteed share-price target or an assurance of investment returns. Actual performance will depend on the company’s financial results, market conditions, investor confidence and other factors.

The planned IPO comes as the Dangote Refinery seeks to expand its operations and strengthen its position in the global petroleum industry. The refinery, located in the Lekki area of Lagos, began operations in 2024 and has a current processing capacity of approximately 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

The company has announced plans to invest approximately $14.3 billion in expanding its refining capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2029. The proposed expansion is expected to increase production capacity, support the development of additional infrastructure and enhance the refinery’s ability to serve domestic and international markets.

The refinery’s financial performance has also attracted attention ahead of the share offering. According to Reuters, the company recorded a profit of approximately $1.82 billion in the first half of 2026, representing a significant turnaround from the $476 million loss reported for the corresponding business period in 2025.

Beyond the Nigerian market, Dangote’s expansion strategy includes plans for additional energy infrastructure and a proposed refinery project in Kenya. The company’s growing regional ambitions, coupled with its role in supplying refined petroleum products, are expected to remain important considerations for prospective investors assessing its long-term business prospects.

As the IPO approaches, prospective shareholders will need to carefully examine the company’s offer documents, financial statements, business strategy and associated investment risks.
