Suspected kidnappers have again struck in Ondo State, abducting a woman and shooting her husband during a late-night attack in Akure.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday night in the Pelebe axis of Akure South Local Government Area, where the armed assailants invaded a residence and carried out the attack.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed the area and targeted a couple, shooting the husband during the assault before forcefully taking his wife away to an unknown destination. The injured man was left behind at the scene with gunshot wounds, while the attackers fled with the woman.
Residents of the community were thrown into panic following the incident, which adds to a growing pattern of violent attacks and kidnappings reported in parts of Ondo State in recent weeks.
Security sources indicated that the victim who was shot was quickly rushed for medical attention after the attackers escaped. Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the abducted woman remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.
Authorities are said to have been alerted to the incident, prompting security operatives to begin efforts aimed at tracking the kidnappers and rescuing the victim.
The latest attack has further heightened concerns among residents about rising insecurity across several communities in the state, where kidnapping incidents have become increasingly frequent.
In recent months, Ondo State has recorded multiple kidnapping incidents, including cases where gunmen abducted residents from their homes or along community roads, leaving many locals worried about their safety.
Community members have repeatedly called on security agencies and the state government to strengthen surveillance and operations to curb the growing wave of abductions.
As investigations continue, security authorities are expected to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted woman and bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
