Arsenal F.C. boosted their chances in the Premier League title race after a narrow 1–0 victory away to Brighton & Hove Albion F.C., while rivals Manchester City F.C. dropped points in a 2–2 draw against Nottingham Forest F.C. and Manchester United F.C. suffered a 2–1 defeat to Newcastle United F.C. in a dramatic round of English top-flight fixtures.
Arsenal secured the crucial away win at the Amex Stadium thanks to an early goal from Bukayo Saka. The Nigeria born England international scored in the ninth minute when his shot took a deflection before beating Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. The goal proved decisive as Arsenal held on to claim all three points despite sustained pressure from the hosts.
The result further strengthened Arsenal’s position at the top of the league standings. The Gunners moved seven points clear after 30 matches, continuing an impressive campaign that has raised hopes of their first league title since 2004.
Arsenal’s victory was made even more significant by Manchester City’s stumble at home. Pep Guardiola’s side twice took the lead against Nottingham Forest but were pegged back on both occasions in an entertaining 2–2 draw. Goals from City were matched by Forest strikes, including a late equaliser from Elliot Anderson that ensured the visitors left the Etihad Stadium with a point.
The dropped points dealt a blow to City’s pursuit of Arsenal at the summit, leaving the defending champions chasing the leaders with fewer points despite having a game in hand. The result also provided a boost to Forest in their battle to stay clear of the relegation zone.
Elsewhere, Manchester United endured another setback after losing 2–1 to Newcastle United. The match saw Newcastle secure a late winner, handing United their first defeat under interim manager Michael Carrick during his temporary spell in charge.
Newcastle capitalised on United’s defensive lapses to seal the victory, a result that strengthened their push for European qualification while denting United’s own hopes of climbing the table.
The trio of results has intensified the dynamics of the Premier League season. Arsenal’s narrow win combined with City’s draw has given Mikel Arteta’s side a significant advantage in the title race as the campaign heads toward its decisive final stretch.
For Arsenal supporters, the midweek outcomes represent a major step toward ending a long wait for the league crown, while rivals City and United now face mounting pressure to regain momentum in the remaining fixtures of the season.
