The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed a temporary suspension of the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991, following a strategic meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, held on Thursday, was presided over by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, who received the NBA delegation led by its President, Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN.
Discussions focused on the ongoing legal issues surrounding the enforcement of tinted glass regulations and the need for cooperation between law enforcement and the legal community in promoting the rule of law.
In an official statement issued by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, the IGP clarified that while there is currently no valid court order halting enforcement of the tinted glass law, the police have decided to pause enforcement temporarily.
This, according to the Force, is a demonstration of goodwill and respect for the NBA as the matter awaits hearing on October 16, 2025, at the Federal High Court, Warri, Delta State.

“The Nigeria Police Force, out of consideration for the interest of Nigerians and in deference to the Nigerian Bar Association, has temporarily suspended enforcement pending the outcome of the court proceedings,” the statement read.
To deepen collaboration, a Police–NBA Committee has been inaugurated to facilitate ongoing dialogue and partnership between both institutions. The committee is expected to streamline approaches to law enforcement and enhance public confidence in the justice system.
Meanwhile, the Police advised all motorists and vehicle owners to use the temporary suspension period to regularize their documentation and ensure full compliance with regulations governing vehicles with tinted or shaded glasses.
IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the commitment of the Police Force to fair, transparent, and rights-based enforcement of all laws, emphasizing the need for continuous engagement with key stakeholders in the justice sector.
