The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed outrage over what it described as a humiliating and shameful act allegedly carried out by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWASUBEB), Professor Raheem Adaramaja, during an inspection visit to the Government Day Secondary School, Amule.
According to eyewitness reports, the incident occurred on Monday, when Professor Adaramaja allegedly ordered teachers, including the Vice Principal, to sweep the school premises in front of students. The SUBEB boss reportedly accused the teachers of maintaining an untidy environment and compelled them to clean the compound despite their explanation that the pupils had just returned from break.
In a strongly worded statement signed by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, and made available to Just Event Online TV, the opposition party condemned the act as “a gross abuse of office and a public humiliation of hardworking education professionals.”
“We view Adaramaja’s action not as discipline enforcement but as a public degradation of teachers who continue to serve under poor conditions,” the statement read.
The PDP further queried Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, asking if this behavior now represents the government’s new standard for the teaching profession in Kwara State. The party noted that Professor Adaramaja, who once served as a teacher, should understand the importance of dignity and respect for educators rather than subjecting them to demeaning tasks before their students.
The statement described the act as “a symbol of arrogance, insensitivity, and moral bankruptcy” that, according to the party, has characterized the Abdulrazaq-led administration. The PDP accused the current government of betraying the ideals of the ‘Otoge’ movement by turning into “power-drunk oppressors who humiliate workers they have failed to motivate or support.”
Highlighting the poor condition of public education in Kwara, the PDP lamented that after six years of the present administration, teachers remain underpaid and unappreciated while schools remain dilapidated and many students still study under trees.
The party called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to defend its members and ensure that the dignity of educators in the state is not trampled upon by public officials.
Furthermore, the PDP demanded that Professor Adaramaja issue an immediate and public apology to the affected teachers and the entire teaching community in Kwara State. The party also urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to condemn the incident and sanction the SUBEB Chairman to prove that the government does not endorse such conduct.
Reaffirming its solidarity with teachers and civil servants across the state, the PDP commended their resilience and dedication to nurturing young minds despite the government’s neglect and humiliation.
