The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMA, Major General CR Nnebeife, has led troops on an operational visit to Patrol Base Babanla, culminating in the rescue of two kidnapped victims near Babasango Forest in Kwara State.
The rescue operation followed a bandits’ attack on traders around Olegbede village, located approximately 12 kilometers from Idofin Ayekale. The unfortunate incident, which occurred close to Idofin in Ayekale village, claimed the lives of three persons.
During his follow-up visit to the Palace of the Oba of Ayekale, His Royal Majesty Oba Pius Oluwole OniDofin of Idofin Odoeshe Ayekale, Major General Nnebeife extended condolences to the monarch and the affected community over the loss of lives.
Oba Pius Oluwole attributed the repeated attacks on his community to its proximity to the Babasango Forest, which has become a known hideout for criminal elements in the area.
In his remarks, Major General Nnebeife assured the royal father and residents that the Nigerian Army will sustain and intensify counter-banditry operations in the entire forest axis. He emphasized the Army’s commitment to restoring peace and security to all communities within its operational jurisdiction.
Earlier in the day, the GOC had embarked on a strategic operations visit to Patrol Base Babanla, where he joined troops in an advance towards Babasango Forest. The operation resulted in the successful rescue of two abducted persons, who were later handed over to Oba Pius Oluwole during the GOC’s visit to the palace.
The Army reaffirmed its resolve to protect law-abiding citizens and maintain peace and stability across Kwara State and its environs.
The visit and rescue mission underscore the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMA to rid forests and border communities of bandits and kidnappers threatening rural livelihoods.
