Former England striker Michael Owen has suggested that Arsenal F.C. are on course to win the Premier League title this season, arguing that their closest challengers are unlikely to maintain a perfect run in the remaining fixtures.
Speaking about the ongoing title buh yrrace, Owen said the current points gap at the top of the table puts Arsenal in a commanding position with only a limited number of matches left to play. According to him, the teams chasing the Gunners would need to win all their remaining games to overturn the deficit—something he believes is unrealistic.
Arsenal currently lead the league by about nine points ahead of defending champions Manchester City F.C., giving Mikel Arteta’s side a strong advantage as the season approaches its final stretch.
Owen argued that while football can still produce surprises late in the campaign, the size of Arsenal’s lead makes them favourites to finish the job. He stressed that their rivals would have to maintain an almost flawless record while hoping the Gunners drop several points.
The former striker noted that such scenarios are rare in the closing stages of a Premier League season, especially when a team at the top is already performing consistently. For that reason, he believes Arsenal have “all but” secured the title unless an unexpected collapse occurs.
Despite the optimism around Arsenal, Owen acknowledged that the title race is technically still open until it becomes mathematically impossible for other teams to catch them. He maintained, however, that the current momentum and points cushion heavily favour the North London club.
Meanwhile, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has insisted that the title race is not yet decided. Guardiola recently said his team must continue fighting for points even though they trail Arsenal by a significant margin.
City’s coach admitted that missed opportunities and dropped points have made the challenge more difficult, but he believes there is still enough time left in the season for a turnaround if Arsenal slip up.
For Arsenal, the prospect of winning the league carries added significance. The club has finished runner-up in recent seasons and is seeking to convert its strong performances into a long-awaited championship triumph.
With only a handful of matches remaining, the pressure will now be on Arsenal to maintain their form and prove Owen’s prediction correct by turning their commanding lead into a Premier League title.
